MEAT INDUSTRY RECOGNITION

COOKS RECOGNITION

To gain a “Certificate of Recognition as a Cook” (which is industry recognised as the same level of a 4-year apprenticeship) you will need to submit an application to the Cooks Recognition Steering Committee  to enable them to assess your skills and experience. Once approved by the Committee your Certificate of Recognition is issued by The Training and Skills Commission (TSC).

To apply you must meet one of the following categories:-

  •  Minimum of 6 years experience as a cook with no formal qualifications

OR

  • Hold a Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) plus 2 years full time post certificate experience as a cook

OR

  • Cooks trained by and employed in the Royal Australian Army/Navy & Air Force who have successfully completed the Cooks Grade One Course and who have then completed six years employment in the trade of Army Cook.

OR

  • Hold an overseas qualification as a cook

Application forms are available by contacting FTH Skills Council office on 08 83626012.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR COOKS RECOGNITION

1.  Contact FTH Skills Council for Application Forms.

2.  Applications close 30th March and 30th September of each year.  Submit your detailed unbound application, noting your application must include the following:

  • Completed Application Forms with payment of $450 made payable to FTH Skills Council 
  • Resume - including Photograph ID, duties and tasks performed
  • Copies of relevant certificates - i.e. Certificate III for commercial cookery
  • Evidence - written references, group certificates/payment summaries

3.  If required attend a 30-minute interview with the Cooks Recognition Assessment Panel. Date and time will be set after your application has been received.

4.  If required complete a practical assessment arranged by FTH Skills Council. 

5.  If application is successful we will apply to the Training and Skills Commission for your Certificate of Recognition.

6.  If application is unsuccessful, we will recommend the appropriate action to gain further experience or training to enable you to resubmit at a later date.  There will be no additional charge to reapply.

** Please note:  If sufficient number of applications are received an additional assessment process will be undertaken. **

BAKERS RECOGNITION

We are pleased to announce that the Baking Industry Recognition procedure has recently been approved by the Training and Skills Commission. Committee members have been finalised and the closing date for applications is April 30 and October 30 of each year. 

To gain a Certificate of Recognition as a Bread Baker, Pastry Cook or Bread Baker and Pastry Cook you will need to submit an application to the Bakers Recognition Steering Committee  to enable them to assess your skills and experience. Once approved by the Committee your Certificate of Recognition is issued by The Training and Skills Commission (TSC).

To apply you must meet one of the following categories:-

 

  •  Minimum of 6 years experience as a Baker with no formal qualifications

OR

  • Hold a Certificate III in Food Processing - Retail Baking (Bread) plus 2 years full time experience as a Bread Baker

OR

  • Hold a Certificate III in Food Processing - Retail Baking (Cake & Pastry) plus 2 years full time experience as a Pastry Cook 

OR

  • Hold a Certificate III in Food Processing - Retail Baking (Combined) plus 2 years full time experience as a Bread Baker and Pastry Cook 

OR

  • Hold an overseas qualification as a cook

  • Copies of relevant certificates/transcript of relecant study - i.e. Certificate III
  • Evidence - group certificates/payment summaries, written references (where possible that referes to Section 2/Section 3 of the "Criteria for Recognition" form) 

3.  If required attend an interview with the Bakers Recognition Assessment Panel.

4.  If required complete a practical assessment arranged by FTH Skills Council. 

5.  If application is successful we will apply to the Training and Skills Commission for your Certificate of Recognition.

6.  If application is unsuccessful, we will recommend the appropriate action to gain further experience or training to enable you to resubmit at a later date.  There will be no additional charge to reapply.

MEAT INDUSTRY RECOGNITION

We had hoped to apply in 2007 to have the Meat Industry Recognition procedure approved and recognised.

We are hopeful that the process will eventually be finalised.  Watch this space for further updates.
